Everything you need to know about Military Law Practice And Procedure.

“A man, who joins the Army, whether as an officer or as a soldier, does not cease to be a citizen”.

CA in Idakwo V NA

The main objective of this book is to clear all doubt that there is real Justice in military Justice even when it belongs to its own class (sui generis). Chapter two of this book presents a guide on some essential stages constituting practice and procedure in military trials. It is hoped that this would simplify the work and aid understanding of the summary, and court-martial trials as a special branch of the Nigerian Criminal Justice administration.

Each Playlet depicts a mirror of the extant practice and procedure all anchored in the AFA and RPA 1972. Suffice it to state however, that emphasis is laid on portraying a fine blend of the traditional military regimentation with due adherence to the fair hearing requirements of the CFRN, 1999 (as amended).

Official Book Reviewer

“The court martial and summary trial Playlets are the most outstanding aspects of this book. This appears to be the only book on Nigerian military justice system in Nigeria that has Playlets to illustrate these trials. They are captivating and appear to be live”.-

Book Reviews

“I am here personally because of the importance I attach to this book. I have had the privilege of scanning through it and discovered that it couldn’t have come at a better time than now that the Nigerian Army is engaged in counter insurgency and other forms of internal security operations in many parts of the country and is required to continue to maintain a high level of discipline which necessarily goes with trials of erring personnel”.

LT Gen. Tukur Yusufu Buratai
Chief of Army Staff (COAS)

“At a time when most publications on military law are written by non-military lawyers, nothing can be more reassuring than reading a book on this area of law written by a military lawyer with all the benefit of hindsight and his wealth of experience”

Major Gen. YI Shalangwa
Director, Legal Services Defence HQ, Abj

“This publication is a veritable and invaluable treasury for every Nigerian Lawyer and Jurist.  It opens the door to the conduct of Military Tribunals, Court Martial and General Military Adjudication and clearly negatives the impression that such trials are conducted not within the principles of fair hearing.”
